Proposal name Training for raising awareness and improvement of integrated water resources management in the Lake Khuvsgul – Eg and Ider river basins
Case reference: RFQ_GPSO/2014-084(IWC-78317)
Duration One month

With the MWF’s technical support, IWRM plans for both the Lake Khuvsgul-Eg and Ider River Basins have been developed for the period 1 October 2012 to 28 February 2014 and endorsed on 12 June 2014 by the Environment and Green Development Minister’s order No A-228.

The results of the questionnaire conducted during the preparation of the IWRM plan shows that more than 90 percent of the responders have no knowledge about IWRM. Moreover, the Ider River Basin Administration has established only in May 2014 the Lake Khuvsgul -Eg River Basin Administration in September 2013. Professionals from the River Basin Administration (RBA) Offices were mostly just university graduates. Therefore, the organization of IWRM capacity building training was essential and requested by the Ministry.

Accordingly, this training was organized for 75 participants of the RBAs professionals and local specialists with advanced knowledge on the IWRM to support the IWRM Plan implementation in the Lake Khuvsgul – Eg Rive and Ider River basins.

The training consisted of 5 modules:

  1. IWRM definition, Principles, Defining the “Integrated” in IWRM;
  2. Stakeholder and Public involvement techniques ;
  3. Estimation of water resources at basin level and transboundary water resources;
  4. International best practices in IWRM and (5) National good practices in water use and environmental conservation.

Each module followed by small exercise and discussions.  The participants have been awarded Training Certificates.
